BUICK ENVISION

This SUV is unique in that it is only built in China, supplying North American markets as well, a logical decision with an estimated North American share of one to every eight Envisions built through 2019 (one out of every five over the export period).

Buick Envision (Angkewei)  China: October 2014 – March 2022, USA: May 2016 - 2021

Sales in America started over one and a half year after its introduction in China, where sales of the 1.5-litre models, launched in April 2015, were equal to those for the 2-litre models in the third quarter, while in the last quarter, front-wheel-drive 1.5 models took the lead, with the 1.5 all-wheel-drives deleted in November 2017.  All models have an automatic transmission, and the 1.5 models a dual clutch.

Instead of 1.5-litres, in America, 2.5-litre (w/o turbo) front- and all-wheel-drive models were added four months after the 2-litre all-wheel-drives.  About half is all-wheel-drive.

In 2018, some 33,000 units were sold in North America, of which 90% in the United States, and 530 in Mexico, where only 2-litre all-wheel-drives were sold.  In China, some 165,000 were handed over to the customer that year.  While the sales figures in 2019 stayed about level for North America, in China the number plummeted to under 100,000, awaiting the E2UB Envision S, but it received an upgrade in May 2020, and sold far better in the third quarter of 2020 than the Envision S.

In early November 2020, some minor equipment changes occurred to the 1.5 model, now badged 532T, with 3 standing for the dual clutch gearbox, while the trim line of the 28T 2.0 turbo model, keeping the disappearing LTG engine, was reduced to one.

Buick Envision S China: July 2020 - , Envision Plus China: June 2021 - , Buick Envision USA: January 2021 -

Sold next to the D2UB Envision in China since July 2020, increased 4.5 cm in width, and on the 3 cm longer wheelbase of the Cadillac XT4 with its aluminum lower front suspension control arm, and a real multi-link (5) rear suspension, the Envision S is powered by the same 2-litre LSY engine that also is in the Chinese Enclave that came in November 2019.  All Avenirs are four-wheel-drive.  The regular series is badged 652T with the first number 6 representing the engine torque output range being 350 Nm or greater, the second number 5 rather casually standing for the 9-speed automatic transmission, the third number 2 meaning the eConnect 2.5 car networking system, and the final letter T stands for Turbo pressure models.  A 652T four-wheel-drive arrived in November 2020 (until September 2021).

Early 2021 it arrived in America as Buick Envision. Mexico switched to front-wheel-drives only.

In June 2021 came the 5/7-seater Envision Plus in China on a 5.4 cm longer wheelbase, with the 48V mild hybrid system. The Avenirs are four-wheel-drive, while an Envision Plus 652T four-wheel-drive arrived in July 2021.

Three Envision S 652T models were rebadged GS in September 2021, apart from the entry-level Elite model and the Avenir, and the 48V mild hybrid system was added to the full Envision S/GS/Avenir line.

By mid-2021, the majority of all Envisions sold in China, still was the old 1.5 model, that was deleted by March 2022.

In October 2021, the new mild hybrid 150 kW 1.5 turbo engine was added to Envision S and Plus, both with the 552T tag, though the Envision Plus entry level model remained a 2-litre 652T (till March 2023).

In December 2021, an Envision S 652T Deluxe model was added and in August 2022 the 652T Elite was deleted.  In December 2022, the 7-seater Envision Plus (Deluxe) was dropped and also the 7-seater Envision Plus Avenir in March 2023.  Also in March 2023, the Envision GS became only available with all-wheel drive

In 2022 172,500 Envisions left the Chinese factory, retail sales in China were over 100,000.  About three Envision Plus were sold against two Envision S.  Over 95,000 units were sold in China in 2023.

The S Avenir (4wd) was dropped in November 2023 and in March 2024 the non-GS S series received a facelift, with the 4wd model removed.  North America will be served late in 2024 but 4wd models only.
