Batteries
The basic 20 kW Wuling HongGuang
Mini EV has two types of power batteries, namely ternary lithium battery and
lithium iron phosphate battery. Both
batteries are lithium batteries, but the materials of the positive electrode
are different. The cathode material of
the ternary lithium (NCM) battery consists of three elements: nickel salt,
cobalt salt, manganese salt and lithium aluminate, so it is called a ternary
lithium battery. Compared to lithium
ferrophosphate (LFP) batteries, ternary lithium batteries have a higher energy
density, that is, the battery capacity is greater for the same weight. Ternary lithium batteries also perform better
at low temperatures. The standard
voltage and working voltage are higher than lithium iron phosphate batteries,
and the charging efficiency is also higher.
These are its benefits.
The lithium iron phosphate battery
is a lithium ion battery that uses lithium iron phosphate as the cathode
material. Its characteristics are that
it does not contain precious metals such as cobalt, the price of raw materials
is low, and the resources of phosphorus and iron are abundant on the
earth. The advantages of lithium iron
phosphate batteries are longer service life, high safety and less prone to
thermal overflow. However, the
disadvantage of lithium iron phosphate batteries is that they have poor
resistance to low temperatures and have a smaller capacity than ternary lithium
batteries of the same quality.
The batteries are produced by
various companies and may differ in actual output. The 9.3 kWh LFP battery in the 20 kW Wuling
HongGuang Mini EV for instance varies from 90V/104Ah to 100V/92Ah, and the 13.9
kWh LFP battery from 90V/156Ah to 90V/150Ah and 103V/135Ah.
Electric
motors (pure electric cars)
Various motor used in the SGMW cars,
are also used in competitor models, such as the TZ155X020 and TZ155X030 in
Geely’s Geome Panda Mini EV, often produced by other manufacturers. The TZ160X020 motor, built by Zhejiang
Founder Motor Co., Ltd. is also used in the BAW Yuanbao, and the TZ155X030
motor is fitted in the Weiao Boma, this time built by Shandong Shuanglin New
Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
The TZ155X020 motor is also fitted
in the 108 cm wide Wuling E10 minitruck,
launched in August 2023. The TZ180XS0A0
motor is also in the large model Rongguang EV truck, launched in September
2023.

A note on drive range
In North
America, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) test procedures are used.
In Europe,
the WLTC (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle) replaced the NEDC
(New European Driving Cycle) from 1 September 2019 (and in Japan from 1 October
2018).
In China,
the CLTC (China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle) replaced the NEDC from 1 October
2021.
Cars like Baojun KiWi EV and Wuling HongGuang Mini EV changed from NEDC to
CLTC, keeping their drive ranges.
In terms of the severity of test conditions, EPA ranks first, WLTC ranks
second, NEDC ranks third, and CLTC ranks fourth.
